"Clear" Body SRT Collector Car Releases |
Racemasters has just released four new bodies in their Collector
Series of SRT cars. They're unique in that they started life out clear. The clear body is
then painted, using the usual process, but the windshields remain clear.
This allows some visual interior detail which is handled by installing a
printed paper which mimics the real detail in the real car (i.e. seats,
spare tires, carburetors, etc.) With clear windows being a part of
the body, there’s no need for a separate, bulky, glued in part. It does make
quite a visual difference. Listed below are the first four car releases
using this new clear body technology.

GT40 Mk II Coupes |
From
Racemasters comes four replicas of the Ford that beat Ferrari at LeMans in
the 1960’s; the GT40 Mk. II. These new GT40’s are the latest releases
in the AFX Collector Series of SRT cars. Ford took on Ferrari in the
mid-60’s with the ultimate goal being a win at the 24 Hours of LeMans.
After a couple years spent with teething problems, Ford put it all
together to take it’s maiden victory at the Sarthe circuit in 1966 (the
first of four straight). Three of the new GT40’s shown here (#8796 -
8797 - 8798) took the top three spots that year while the fourth car was
Dan Gurney’s mount (red #3). Each of these new GT40’s sells for $22.95
and rides on an SRT chassis. |

2D Coupes |
During the 1960's, one of the most advanced race car
manufacturer's was Jim Hall's relatively small Chaparral marque located in
Texas. Perhaps
their most beautiful design, and one of racing's best looking coupes ever,
was the Chaparral 2D they campaigned in 1966. #9502 is a replica of the #7 2D Coupe that won the
Nurburgring 1000KM in June, 1966 while #9503 is a replica of the #9 2D
Coupe that competed at LeMans in 1966. These authentic
replicas are mounted on an SRT chassis: |

| Cobra Daytona Coupes |
Designed
by Redmond, Washington resident Peter Brock, the Cobra Daytona Coupe's mission was
to bring a World Championship to Carroll Shelby and his Cobra marque. The
car was developed after Shelby realized the Cobra roadsters would never be
able to keep up with Ferrari's coupes at LeMans with their superior top
end speed. Although most of the Cobra team didn't think the car would work, Peter knew exactly what he was doing and the car
delivered Shelby with his first World Championship in international
competition in the mid 60's. The following Daytona Coupes are authentic
replicas of those famous race cars. |
